Default Factory Audio System or Replacement System

Im looking into purchasing a brand new mustang within the next few months. I absolutely love music and love to play it to the max in any car i go. I was wondering how good is the shaker 1000 system and is it worth the upgrade or should I simply purchase the factory 500 and upgrade on my own. I am trying to spend just as much as the upgrade which is slightly over a grand. How would I get more bang for my buck? Thanks all.

It's a no brainer ....Go aftermarket. The difference in the 500 and the 1000 is not worth the $1,100....you get 2 extra speakers with the 10s (with amps) in the trunk and the stock ford speakers are replaced with audiophile, that's about it. For $1,100 you can have a pretty nice aftermarket setup.

I got the 500 and just added 2 10" Kickers with amps for less than $400.

I have the Shaker 1000 and it's okay, but not worth $1200.00. I couldn't believe how crappy the speakers are -- standard factory paper speakers, at least in the rear deck. The subwoofer is too boomy -- not sharp clear bass at all. I still like the car though -- I'll just upgrade the speakers over time, and then the head (who said head?) unit if I need to. Great car though.

You said "should I simply purchase the factory 500 and upgrade on my own". You wouldn't get Shaker 500 and then upgrade. You'd get the base radio which by the way sounds awesome; I test drove both (back to back) and IMO the std radio was clearer (little less base and no MP3 capability) ...but it does have the cool speed sensitive volume and if you want to see a stang with nice clean door panels that you and your passenger won't be kicking those 500-1000 speakers on, check out one with the std radio. ...needless to say that is what I bought after comparing; really doubt that I'll ever upgrade it; sound is just way too good.

I have 2 Alpine amps. that I am no longer useing ... want them.???. send a PM and I will put them up on EBAY...
1) is a 300 watt sub amp
1) is a 4/3/2 = (50 x 4) on 4 or (75 x 2 + 150) on 3 or (150 x 150) on 2
why they call it a 4/3/2 amp.

BTW: they look and sound brand new...

Definatly go with the base or the 500. The 1000 isnt worth the money and adds too much weight for what you get. But in looking for a car, I would have taken the 1000 with a little grief if a car came along that had it.

I like the 500 in mine. I am picturing that with some nicer speakers it will sound even better. So far it seems like a decent head unit. Has decent base, etc. Can always add to it.

Keep in mind that if you are looking for a GT with leather, to get the standard stereo you would have to get the deluxe and add the leather to it a la carte I believe.

Problem is, most GTs on lots with leather are premiums.

Don't even bother with the 500, then you don't have the big bulges in the doors. Plus your car will be faster due to the reduces weight!

Since you will not need the door sub locations anyway, might as well save a little more money, weight and have something that looks better as well.

If you're stuck with the 500 system (which I am), what subs can we put into those locations, assuming the rest of the system (outside of the other speakers) remains the same?

I'm thinking of just getting a small fitted box with a 12" I saw on the Crutchfield site and putting that in the trunk with one of my leftover MTX amps from my last Mustang.

Mine had the shaker 1000 on the lot, and I honestly think it sounds pretty good. The only thing I wish I could do is find out how to lower the output of the amps to the subs. I love a good bass sound, however I don't like it when the bass is overdriven. I like for the bass to accentuate the music, not drown it, and in my opinion, the base is overdriven. Anyone know if it's possible to lower the output of the amps to the subs in a shaker 1000?
