$140 mirror paint job (pics)
Looks good! Only benifit of the black mirrors as I see it is at least they wont chip like most big mirrors do. I was betting the GT-500 would have painted mirrors. Not only did they leave the mirrors black, they went to black rockers. Go figures.
It is all in the prep. I have painted many plastic parts. The right shop will smooth the mirrors and use the proper cleaners and plastic adhesion promotors/primers to ensure that the paint will stick well.
And yes, painted mirrors will be more prone to chipping. But thats a given. If done right they will be no worse than any other car with painted mirrors.

They look a bit bumpy, but then so does the stock paint of the Mustangs!
You'd expect they would have clean reflections for the price of the GT, but not yet...
Maybe they'll realize they should just sell primered Mustangs so we can paint them correctly ourselves!

Painted mirrors even on a black stang make a big difference; that grainy plastic just screams "cheap". JMO
...and yeah on the Sheby that black plastic on mirrors and rockers is "nuts" for an expensive ride like that. Just about every new car that's come out in the last 10 years has painted mirrors.

Ya, I think it's even more important on a black car. On the red, for instance, you have a red/tan contrast going on. But with the black it just stands out as a sore thumb. Black cars, imo, are also supposed to be uniformly sharp and glossy, moreso than other colors IMO. Sorta how slight imperfections just glare at you on black cars.
As far as the chipping it is a concern of mine. But so many cars, especially the higher cost ones, have painted mirrors. This probably isn't that major an issue. I called 3 people for quotes and noone mentioned it as a major issue. The guy who did mine said "paint chips, it happens sometimes." Which is how I feel. Windshields chip, it just happens. At this price though I figure if it happens, I can get them re-finished. Cost 140 to degrease, sand themrough, apply the plastic adhesive and paint/clear. Would cost less to do a little sand and repaint, so if that happens no biggie.
I love the way it looks and generally as a stock/no-mod guy I like the way it does personalize the mustang, make it more mine, and like someone already mentioned on the thread, puts me in that different category of owner who goes the extra mile. So maybe it's not so bad that it doesn't come like this stock. But most people won't do this and I guess I'd like it if all Mustangs looked that much sharper.
