Default Stereo Upgrade Woes

So I am going to install an AVIC-Z1 navigation system in my car. My woes are that the places I've gotten quotes from are telling me that the speakers and subs from the Shaker 500 system are not compatible with this headunit. My question is how the hell can this be? I don't see how speakers and such can truly be incompatible. The only problems I could see would be possibly needing amps and such for power issues. Am I getting a load of bull from several audio shops or am I really just that damn unlucky?

Hey there..I am a car audio/video installer...and though I havent looked into the 05+ mustang Shaker systems yet I would say they are right. There are no proper ways to tie into the factory amps/speaker set-up.Ford makes everything so that it has to work together.Thats how the pre-05 Mach systems were.Eventually some interface companys introduced proper ways to add a head unit correctly using interfaces.I'll do some research and keep you posted OK.Where are you from? I am in Fort Wayne Indiana.

I installed a Jensen DVD system with no problem. The only issue is that you have to regulate the voltage from the amp trigger wire from 12 volts to 5 volts. Got a little regulator from radio shack for $3 and wired it in the line. As I recall, Hawgman gave me the details on the part and the wiring harness adaptor that was needed to match up the factory wiring harness.

Here is the thread with all of the details from Hawgman. click here

I did use the factory speakers and amps. They sounded pretty decent after I had a knowledable person go in and adjust all of the output levels that the Jensen provides for.

Just remember, the people telling you that it is incompatible are the same people that want to sell you new amps and speakers. They will work fine with a $20 wiring harness adaptor and a $3 voltage regulator.

See that's exactly what I was thinking. The thing about it is that I am getting these quotes through my dad's dealership so prices are coming in wholesale. I would imagine all I have to do is mention these ideas to them for them to say oh yeah maybe we should do that so we don't lose business lol. I will take a look at that thread and do some more research on my own as well once I get the time. Things too hectic right now to look into it though. Thanks a lot and I look forward to hearing any more insight you might have.
