Default Touch Up Paint Reccomendations Neded

Greetings all. I'm brand new to these forums and to Mustangs, so forgive me for asking a question that might have been asked before (yes, I did some forum searches), but here goes:

I recently bought a 2005 Mustang V.6 (satin silver). It is a fantastic vehicle (only onwer before me was Hertz Rent-A-Car and they kept it in tip top condition). However, on very slose inspection I noticed a few minor paint chips and scratches here and there. On balance I don't think very many people would even notice but it is very distracting to me. So my question is:

What touch up paint companies do you are think provide the best quality touch up paints for minor scratches and small chips?
Which is the highest quality? Who has the easiest to use product?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

You bought an ex rent car?!?! You're either very brave or very trusting.

Personally, I would seek out this company called Ford. They make exact matching touch up paint for Mustangs. You can usually walk right up and purchase it from their parts counter.

There are also several online companies that sell paint. Check the non performance upgrade sticky at the top of the forum. etouchup.com and paintscratch.com are a couple. I am sure there are plenty more.

Thanks for the not-to-thinly veiled condescension. I'm sure it's greatly appreciated.

A car dealer once told me the worst car you can buy is a rental because people who rent them really don't take good care of them and also beat the s--t out of them.

It really depends on what you want, brush, spray, or even clear coat. There are several companies that will provide all of the above or custom paint. Just go to google or yahoo and do a search on automotive touch up paint kits.

I persoannly like the spay and clear coat, lets you do a really professional job. Never seen these kits at that FORD company parts counter though! Have you paint number available when you order.

A) This has nothign at all to do with the question I asked; it was superfluous information I added just to give folk an idea of what kind of car I had.

B) It has nothing to do with my car. I had 2 different mechanics check it out and a full inspection done before purchase. Not only was it in near perfect condition (just some wear on one of the tires; it needed an alignment), but it only had 20,000 miles on it and the full warranty.

Like every other purchase, one should investigate what one is actually buying.

CWall, thanks for at least approaching an answer to my question. Do you have any specific brand that you prefer?

I use two different types of touch up depending on the chip and where it is. First is the paint from ford. But it is just laquer.

Second method is a real base clear touch up.

I have a pint of PPG DBC basecoat I use and thin as needed for chips. And then I will activate and mix a small amount of clear and start filling the chip from there after I get the base in. Then alot of coats of clear, wetsanding, compound, glaze, polish, etc.

Of course the second method is not for the average guy and expect to shell out at least a 100 bucks in matirials at an autobody supply as you cant buy a little of this and a little of that. Yuo have to buy a pint of base and a quart of clear, all with thinners and activators.
