Default Very High Idle at Startup

When I start my '06 GT it jumps to about 2100 RPM, which seems a little high to me until oil pressure builds. It quickly rolls back off to around 900-1K while it's warming-up and then down to 750 or so at operating temp. I have to admit, it sounds mean as hell, but I'm worried that there's a lot of wear and tear going on in the process.

Is this normal?

Prof.

I live in Atlanta (Hotlanta in this case) because the daytime temps are in the mid-90's right now. Engine temp is definitely a factor in this case, but not necessarily ambient air temp. It doesn't rev as high (usually around 1200) when the engine is started at operating temp, so the problem appears on a cold start.

Ambient air temps are in the mid 70's in the morning when I first start the beast, so I would not think I would see an abnormally high idle unless there was a problem of some kind.

Mine does the same thing, i dont think ford would have allowed this if it was bad for the car... My theory anyways

This one's got me scratching my head.....

I've heard several people say theirs does the same thing, and a few say it doesn't. I think I'll call my service manager and ask him to get Ford's official position on this issue.

Anyone else?

Mine does it also, cranks at about 2k rpm then falls back to 800 everytime i start the pony. May or may not be good for the car, but i love it's roar in the mornings, makes the neighbors poke their heads out their windows to see what's goin on.

Yeah, I get the same thing. Everybody turns their head to see what the ruckus is all about. Heh, heh......[sm=yikesomg.gif]

I like it too, but my dad always taught me to let the oil pressure build up a few pounds before revving the motor. I guess perhaps the new oil filters with a check valve probably help to get the pressure there quicker. Unfortunately, I still have visions of those Castrol commercials where they show the effects of thermal breakdown on an engine at full throttle. Old habits die hard I guess....
