Default rich conditions??

Salutations. My 06 Gt 5-spd with K&N CAI, Flowmasters axle back and Predator tune is causing me some concerns. I loaded the 87 tune with 87 octane pinging like crazy at 5000-6000 RPM. So i loaded the 91 tune with 91 octane, same problem only this time there is some black soot like powder at the end of my exhaust tips. I then re-loaded the 87 tune with 91 octane no pinging but a small amount of residue on exhaust tips. I really enjoyed the 91 tune should I load the 91 tune with 93 octane gas? Any advice would he appreciated. Thanks!

If i am not mistaken you do not need a tune for the K&N CAI since it essentially uses the stock MAF diameter and does not increase the airflow enough to justify a tune. So my guess would be the tune you have is for a CAI and it has fattened it up to much. Ditch the tune and see what happens. Then maybe if that solves the issue get a new tune but make it for the stock intake.

Burning rich is also a sdign of a low voltage problem. The battery could have a bad cell or the on board computer is having a voltage issue. When the computer senses a timing issue , which can occur when the battery is not providing the correct and constant voltage, it makes up for the problem by supplying more fuel to the injectors. A tip off that a battery is failing is the decrease in fuel mileage. Anyway, remember burning rich can be simply the result of low voltage.
