Some states call vanity plates to those plates with pre-designs or logos (i.e., an university plate, purple heart, etc) and personalized plate is when you are able to type-in your own numbers/letters combination. Some states allow both, a vanity plate, lets say (Clemson University) and allow you to request your own number/letters combo.

TYP A, as in "Type A personality"- which means very impatient, intolerant & aggressive (in other words: a prime candidate for road rage).

I just got in the mail today, a postcard from the DMV saying my vanity plate is ready. I'm going down to pick it up Monday morning, I'll post picks when I do. My plate is YRUSLO
. In RI, you can go to the DMV onlinetocheck the availability of a plate, reserve it for $40, then wait 6-8 weeks until it's ready.

Mine comes from the original name for Grabber Orange that Ford was planning on calling it. When you order touch-up paint, it is still listed as "Valencia Orange." The CYA is just a little way to speed it up. I think it's pretty cool.
