It's illegal in all 50 states. Have your wallet ready.

SLPs are NOT illegal ! Only thing illegal is taking the smog devices off like CATs. [sm=chairshot.gif]

I am not worried about the loudness, the cops dont do to much about that here in Canada, i am just wondering if it is going to throw check engine light.

Yep, it will. Take the cats out and it will, definitely. I have the SLP catted X pipe and they are throwing a CEL because the cats are not as efficient as the stock ones, thus the CPU is detecting this and is throwing a fit. Before going through DEG in a couple of years I'll need to throw in a device that "fools" the CPU into reading the after CAT O2 detector in thinking all is well. About 60 bucks per side. If the Kenne Bell tune does not take care of this in a week or so when my Supercharger is installed I'll have them put these in too.

I went in to my local exhaust shop and asked them what they think is the best sounding mufflers and they said none. Straight pipes sound the best. I still don't know about that unless I hear it

Yea, leaving the cats in will keep it legal. Other than that it is just the decible rating and whatever mood the cops are in. As long as you don't "advertise" your exhaust you should be fine. Even going through DEQ, with SLPs the quietest range is around 2500 rpm, exactly the level they test at.

Not talking about SLPs, they're considered a "muffler". I'm talking "straight" pipes. If you run "WITHOUT" mufflers, you're illegal everywhere. In the US that is. Don't know about Canada. I would think the tree-huggers up there wouldn't want to disturb the Caribou.
