Default SYNTHETIC OIL

I did my first oil change at 3000 miles using Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W 30 in my 2006 v6 coupe. I also have seen Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil when Ive been in the auto store. I dont want to mess around with trying to stretch oil change intervlas, but is there any advantage to using to Extended Performance full sythetic VS. the regular full synthetic? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Only if you're going to EXTEND the time/mileage between oil changes. The whole idea behind synthetics is to extend the mileage.

That's a good question. I've never seen Mobil 1 "extended" before. Perhaps this is just labeling for the sake of advertising Mobil 1 synthetic oil? I say this without doing a google search of course.

As for me, I use Mobil 1 synthetic (yes - 5W 30) on my '06 V6 Automatic and change oil and filter every 3k miles (I drive in harsh, humid, hot Houston city type driving). I feel that with this oil and this regime of changes, it would truly be hard for me to even better protect my engine with an "extended" performance oil.

I'm interested to hear more about this though.

Walmart here in Palm Coast carries both the "Extended Performance full synthetic" and the regular full synthetic. (both are Mobil 1 oils) The "Extended Performance" is about $7 more for the 5 quart bottle.

Wow... I am one who does in fact believe in a bit of overkill when it comes to preventative maintenance. And as such I do in fact fork over a few extra $$$ that some may consider unecessary. But.... IMHO... I can only imagine a benefit from an "Extended Performance" version of an already top rated full synthetic oil if you are racing your car or hauling and towing on a regular basis??? Again... Just MHO.
