Default WINDOW EXPLODED

DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY TODAY AND MY WINDOW JUST BLEW UP!!! Didnt find a rock or anything in my car dont know what caused it. got the window replaced but im wondering if I should get my door painted from the little tiny scratches the glass made when it fell? should i repaint its really not all that bad but you can see it since i know its there????

There was an identical thread about this a looong while back... not sure if the cause of it was determined.
Maybe someone who remembers more about can fill in.

Holy crap!!! I would just about bet that a rock did hit it, but just fell down the outside with the glass. That was probably scarey non the less!

work for a ford dealer mechanic told me some of them have just blown up??? I dont know what the hells up

The glass is tempered glass. It doesn't crack, it doesn't chip, it just explodes into a million tiny pieces so no large shards sheer someone's head off in an accident. Though since it's thick enough it can handle the abuse of the little scratches we get when putting the window up and down when dirt gets in there and stuff. If I had to guess, I'd say you had a substantial enough scratch that the pressure from cross winds or something caused it to break. Could be another thing, but I dunno.

could be but I've never noticed any scratches on my window got it in the begining of AUG. Those tiny scratches are killing me though

Maybe the function that causes the window to go up/down when the door opens and closes goes haywire and jams the window up hard enough to break?

All it takes is a small pebble in the right spot to burst the glass into million pieces...good thing you kept your cool and was able to manage it while driving...me? they would have found me in a ditch somewhere, upside down going..[sm=WTFsgign.gif]

driving on IH-35 the most deaths happen on this highway in the US, between dallas and san antonio at least thats what maxim said. glad i didnt add to that #. it was a really loud noise
