Default WHY?

I was at the gas station yesterday filling up so I decided to test the vehicle check system (or whatever it's called). I left the gas cap off and then went in my car to do the test and it said my fuel cap was "OK." Why? It was obviously off.

I did this same test and it didn't throw that code either.

It takes a while before it throws a code, try turning your car on with the cap off for a couple minutes.

There's no little button like on your door or trunk to tell the computer your gas cap is off, it can tell that the cap is off by the change in pressure (or lack thereof) in the fuel system. You need to have the motor running and even then it won't be instantaneous.
