What grade of gas do you run in it? Try running a tank of premium and see if it goes away. Im not sure on the comp. ratio of your car but Im going to assume its higher than 8.5/9:1 which at that point its recommended to run premium.

You do NOT nead premium fuel. Use 87 only but get it from a reputable station. It could just be crap gas, it is more common than you may think.... especially these days. The filter is likely making it run a bit lean. This is common with k & n among other aftermarket intakes/filters. Ford designs the entire intake system around the MAF. You change one thing and run a high risk of fuel miscalculation. If your MAF is dirty - it will be hard to clean well. There is a spray available but the new style MAF's do not like it. Return it to stock and disconnect the battery for at least 15 min. This will erase all the strange fuel strategies that may be in place and allow the PCM to start fresh. If it still pings, you may want to consider carbon as a possible source - especially if you don't drive your car often or allow it to completely warm up each time you drive it. And, of course, read your owner's manual. Some spark knock is normal. Either way, if you take it to a dealer, they will tell you to return it to stock and charge you for a new maf if your fuel trims are goofy.
Is the K & N Filter a drop in or the CAI? I have a K & N Drop in filter and my engine was pinging while cold under acceleration and going up hills while warmed up. I cleaned the MAF sensor this past weekend and I don't hear anymore pinging. I just bought some Quick Drying Electrical Cleaner, did some quick spraying, let it dry, spray it again, let it dry and put the maf sensor back in. I heard they make maf cleaner but I couldn't find any and was told QD Electrical Cleaner would work too.
I've heard just stay away from Oiled air filters on the stangs
there are other compainies that make Oil free high flow air filters but if you change the air filter or install any CAI get a tune dude
