rigidly mounting the shifter to the transmission would eliminate the need for torque limiters. Seems like a good idea.

I still don't think anybody makes a shifter that is rigidly mounted to the trans only, like the article that Moose posted, NO body connection. It clearly can be done, WHY NOT?

No, PHP actually makes a cage looking contraption that looks like the pictures in the article that you can mount a stock shifter to and bolt it to the trans. It isn't on their web site ( just like a lot of things they sell ). You have to call them. I know of a couple of people that have been using it.
