Default Sirius Upgrade

Ok, I contacted my Ford dealership to get the Sirius upgrade for my '06 stang. They just called me back and told me that they do have it, and it will cost $425 plus installation!!!!! This doesn't seem right to me, since it's a $200 option for the '07, and the prerequisite is the Shaker500, which I have. Not to mention, you can get the GM upgrade at Circuit City for $80 plus installation, and I can't see there being a horribly big difference.

Has anyone done this upgrade? What did it cost you? Just looking for a little help/advice...

Is you shaker 500 sirius ready? Meaning will you control sirius directly through the shaker system? I had a 06' Expedition with a head unit that was Sirius ready and the install and unit (under the seat) cost around 400. The sound, install, use was flawless. My wife had an 03 Expedition which was not Sirius ready and had the side controller unit. What a POS. The channels would fade in and out, sound garbled, etc.... total waste of money. I would probably get a different head unit if this is your case. Shop around to different dealerships.

I went to another dealership today...my Shaker500 is not Sirius ready. To do the full replacement with factory parts from Ford, with installation, would be around $1000. That's a bit much in my book. The guy even suggested not doing it and going to Circuit City and spending that kind of money on a DVD/Satellite setup. He was very honest with me in saying that going with the factory setup was a waste of money. I think I'll be bringing my future business to this dealership instead of the one where I got my car...

Good luck with everything! Making the change to sirius is definetly worth it. If you do make the change to the head unit just make certain it has enough power to supply the speakers as it does now (500w). I'm not a audio person at all so I could be wrong. Another choice would be to search for a factory unit on ebay from an 07'.

I just bought the PIE aux adapter, just got it ups yesterday and I'm gonna use the plugNplay reciever I already have from the truck we traded in, I have been using the built in modulator in the unit, it sounds like ***. My 99 has the aftermarket pioneer deck with the tuner box, I know it sounds good.

Well, went back to my dealership today. Last night I found a TSB on the Shaker500, regarding the "bad disc" message, cd skipping, and the unit locking up when trying to play a cd, all problems I've had. I said to my service guy, "Since you'll already be taking everything out, what would I be looking at to have the sirius installed?" He talked to the guy in the parts department, and he said all I'd have to pay is the difference in price...the regular Shaker500 is $350, the satellite ready Shaker500 with sirius tuner is $500, so a total of $150!!!!! And since they're already going to be working on the stereo, no installation costs!!! I'm going to have them fix that weird vibration in the dash too...found the TSB on that last night as well. I'll be taking her in on Wednesday of next week, so I'll let everyone know how things went just for future reference.

I just bought a 2007 GT and my Ford dealership handles Sirius installation via a third-party. Isn't that strange? And it's ~$600. For that much, I want the thing integrated in the dash and plugged into the Shaker 500. Third-party installation...why do I have a bad feeling about this? Everything else about the transaction seems fine.
