Default Cleaning Your CAI

I think it's about time to clean the C&L air filter. I have heard of the dangers of over-oiling the filter and messing up your MAF sensor. Does anyone have any detailed instructions on just how much oil to put on it and how to do it?

Also, I think I have heard of MAF sensor cleaner or something, could this stuff remove any oil that may get on it?

It seems it would make sensor to clean the MAF a couple times every once in awhile to make sure nothing is getting on it. Anyone use something like this?

you want to completely oil the filter, but not dripping wet, and let it dry at least over night before reinstalling, preferably 24hrs. CRC makes a special MAF cleaner that works like a champ, I have used it and it does work wonders. If you cannot find the maf cleaner, get the crc small electronics cleaner, it has a close enough formulation to work. DO NOT USE Carb cleaner, throttle plate cleaner or anything of the like. Let the maf dry completely before you reinstall it.

I have been using K&N for years, I have never had a problem. Just dont go wild with the oil.

Ok I am clueless here. I have a CAI. But what are you guys talking about when you say "over oiling the filter"? It seems like I have seen other references to "oiled filters" and "non oiled filters". What's the difference, and could someone please explain why you would use oil to clean your filter, and what the procedure would be.

Thanks

Yeah you have to put some oil on the filter to catch the dirt, if you over oil the filter, the oil can cause problems with the maf. Just a light coat.

K&N makes a Recharger filter care service kit. I it has a bottle of spray filter cleaner to use first then it has an aerosol can of K&N filter oil to spray quickly one time per pleat then wait 10 minutes. If any white spots show touch up those.

+1 - I've been using the K&N for some time - using the recharge kit on my pony's C&L CAI filter.
