Default rivrHello all

1st off I have to say that I am a coverted import sports car buyer. I would have never thought I would drive a Mustang, but here I am!! I took delivery of my 05 GT convertible 5speed w/9800 miles yesterday, and proceeded to order the Granteneli CAI and strut tower brace, and throttle body. I also ordered pullys, lowering springs, and some other toys. So it took approx 33 seconds to start modding. And even though I 3 day shipped the stuff, I went out and took out the pre cat thing out of intake tube for the 6hp Now I have been on the site ever since, and wow very helpfull, all the import sites spend all thier time bashing domestic cars instead of how to enjoy thiers more. Now the milion $$ ?'s, I already have been conviced to cancel my throttle body order. Now I need to decide if the tuner is needed if the intake I bought includes a new MAP? Somethings I read seem to show you need to tune to compensate for a stock MAP w/a CAI, and thats the biggest advantage, while other things seem to lean toward needing to tune to get more HP out of your CAI. Am I better off getting a tuner also even though the Grantenelli doesnt "need" a tune?? I know this has been betten to death, but I try to choose all my mods carefully.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums! There are some very intelligent and helpful people here. Yes you will need a programmer / tuner. It is the only way that you will be able to take full advantage of most of your hardware upgrades. It also allows you to do things like change your speedo calibration if you change gears, ect. The programmers are worth every penny. Yes you should use the tuner to take full advantage of your new CAI. I am pretty sure the Granatelli is a complete kit which includes a new maf.
Best of luck and enjoy your Mustang!!!

Yea, unless you are getting any Camshafts, or F/I, you should stay with your stock Throttle body, you might see 1 hp gain, if you don't have a highly modded engine.

The Granatelli CAI comes with a new MAF which allows it to run and still pickup a 25 RWHP gain. Ask Quick S, he has a Granatelli CAI with a SCT X-cal 2.

thanks, I didnt know if the kit's MAP is just that, or if it is more involved. I will say that I had a 350Z w/every go fast(r) goody available, and it only pushed the HP so far up the rpm curve it seemed to slow it down. I am happy to find out that they actually help w/my GT. The one upgrade I did that made the most difference was a lightened flywheel. Before installed I could be driving, push the clutch and you could count down how long it took to drop rpms, and the Mustang seems the same. However it isnt popular here?? Boy am I lost on the domestic scene!!!

I might be wrong but if the car has the "pre-cat thing" in the stock intake and you take it out there is a risk of fire in the engine bay The very purpose of the part is to catch gas vapors when you turn the car off and they are sucked back in when the car is started! Just an FYI I know mine doesn't have it when I changed to a K&N intake with tune the stock intake had no vapor barrier! anyway just an FYI

thanks everyone, well , thanks to all of you ,I settled on the intake and tuner from Brenspeed, w/his tune of course, and kept the order for the pulleys, springs, and as we speak I am getting bluetooth, tint, hard wired i-pod adapter, and some extra tunes (bass) put in. I also ordered 20" Niche wheels which should be here in a couple days. This is a very bad sickness[:'(] But thanks to everyone for helping me spend all my money in the right places!!

You wanna buy me some mods

Nice dude, you will like those mods, you should put down a nice little bit of power. Also, get the darkest tint you can, personally, I think tint should be required for the news stangs.

Welcome CLUBSFIT. I have the Granatelli CAI and calibrated MAF. I love it. Sounds great and much improved power. I have thought about getting a tune with the Granatelli CAI but have not seen any info on this mod.

Their Fuego tuner sounds interesting but have not seen any info on this mod either.
