Which CAI Should Santa Bring?
Hey guys,
I purchased an '06 GT in August, when Ford was doing some of their end of model year incentives. First thing to do was get rid of that wimpy exhaust. SLPs did the trick. Now it's Christmas and I'm thinking CAI. I just don't know which one to get. I've noticed that the C & L is popular around here, but according to Brenspeed you have to have a tuner to use it. What I'd really like to do is get a CAI that I can run without the tuner until, say... tax return time when I can go ahead and get a SCT or Diablo. It looks like the WMS intake will do just that, with some modifications to my car. Thoughts? Suggestions? Is it worth it? I really would like to get some use out of the CAI before I get the tuner, but that may not really my best option. I'm looking for some solid feedback and guidance here.
Thanks for your help!

I believe the only CAI you can safely run without a tuner is the GMS CAI. They come with a recalibrated MAF sensor which is how they get around having to reprogram the computer.
We have them on sale right now as well. They are offered in both satin and stainless finish.

I just bought the AirRaid intake. It's 4" in diameter and the cool thing about it, it has a MVT (Modular Venturi Technology) It's installed so you don't need a tuner, but once you do want a tuner for optimal gains, you remove the MVT( for more air flow)and install the tune. It's not cheap but I like it better than GMS and K&N's CAI, which you don't need tunes for them.

If you plan to get a tuner then wait. I made the mistake of getting the JLT without a tuner and couldn't install it until I got a tune. Luckily I didn't have to wait long (wife was understanding that a mod couldn't sit in the garage all by it's lonesome!!
). The CAI without a tune just aren't comparible IMO.
If you wait and get a C&L, JLT, or Steeda with a tune youwill be happy. I would put money on it. It is worth the wait.

I highly recommend teh Airaid one....no need to tune. Once you get your tuner then you can tune it and get more power! Here's a pic of teh ROUSH one (SAME THING AS AIRAID)

just got my granatelli today, we'll see what kind of a difference there is. I'm not too big on a tune since most dealers around here don't like you messing with the computer. They get pissy if you go to Autozone to get your MIL checked whether the car is under warranty or not.
