Clunk when engaging first gear...
Hey all, well I have this problem, when I am at a dead stop and engage 1st gear I can hear this clunk that seems to be coming from the driveshaft... is this normal? and yes I do have the clutch all the way in.
Thanx in advance.

You're not the only one having this problem.
I've been hearing a clunk when I shift from 1st to second, and only then...I posted about this the other day and it seems that this is part of a 2 piece driveshaft problem, and only happens at lower RPMs.

but what is kind of weird is that when you engage first gear with the clutch all the way in there isnt any movement in the driveshaft ( I hear the clunk before I even start letting go of the clutch to get going)
With a working clutch fully depressedthe only "clunk' noiseyou wouldhear going into gearis a bad syncro-mesh. It's also possiblethe clutch is slipping and the "clunk" is the gears not being completely stationary when you engage. Does this happen in any othergear?
Update....
It only happens once in a while, what it always happen is clunk/grind in second gear only when you make the change 1st to 2nd when first is below 2.5k rpms...

haha i took my honda friend for a ridei n my mustang and he thought my tranny was going to fall out frm all the sounds it was making, i just told him thats the sound of power lol
Mine makes a clunking also sometimes when going into first I don't believe it's the driveshaft though. I think it's the synchros or something in the tranny slamming in because I can feel the vibration up through the shift ****.I just wrote it off as being normal, but who knows I'm a newbie to manual tranny's. If It's not normal I'd like to know to. As of know I have a nice little to do list togive to my dealer so Iguess one more problem can't hurt lol.I've learned that the first few shifts after a cold start are like trying to shift through a brick wall though....I think that is normal because the fluid sunk to the bottom or may be cold !?
Yours is probably the sound of an improper pinion angle or your LCA's not torqued enough.
Have you been to the alignment shop yet?
