Vinyl Stripes
Happy New Year's Guys,
Quick question about stripes. I want to get vinyl stripes on my GT, but am worried that after the years go on the paint around the stripes will fade and it won't under the stripes. If I ever want to remove them will the discoloroation be noticeable? I don't want to paint them due to it costed around $2k.

i had mine on for a year and there was no discoloreration but there was scratches on the front hood part from everyday use that wasnt under the stripes. So some buffing was needed. hope that helps

The shop i had them attached had real good vinyl and i washed and polished many times and they did not fade or get rough. the only thing was a stone took a chunk out ot one of the stripes. But if you drive your car it will happen.

Happy New Year to all! Make sure you request 2 mil CAST vinyl. This is a premium striping material that will last for many years without discoloration. Cast vinyl film contains a good amount of UV stabilizers and Absorbers, and is very dimensionally stable. Both 3M and Avery provide this material. Do not use a Calendared Vinyl film, as it will not survive the demanding exposures of outdoors. Hope that helps.

1) where you live (AZ worse than VT)
2) where typically parked during the day
3) how often garaged
4) care you take on maintaining the finish (waxing in particular)
5) color of the car (black worse than white)
If you drive a black car year-round inAZto collect cactus during the day and you never wax it, fading should be quite visible after the first year. Actually then after removing the vinyl, your now "bright black" painted stripes might look pretty darn good.

I took my vinyl off after 18 months or so... I live in Michigan and the car is not garaged.... No fading issues... i do keep the car washed and waxed..
