Original Key Replacement
On a recent dive trip, I dropped my wife's keys out of my truck, and they are now gone forever. The really bad part is it was one of the original keys. From what I've been able to read, you need both original keys to program a new key, so getting one on ebay doesn't seem to be an option. I searched and found a post about using a locksmith, but can they do it without both original keys?
Is there a cheaper way than going through a dealer, or are there any dealers out there not trying to finance thier kids college tuition through the sale of one key?
Additional question: can you program a remote without having both original remotes? I need to replace that too.
Thanks in advance.

The only real way to program a new one is using an actualford scantool, sometimes referred to as the t-bone scanner(looks like a T) they have to deprogram the original key and them program them in as a pair. You can get the key cut elsewhere, but prob stuck at the dealer to get it programmed. If you have a ford specialty shop/tuner in your area, they may have the ford scanner and can do it for you.
I have never heard of needing both keys to make a new one or for the FOB, you will have to have 2 keys if you want a remote starter because they put one in the car and ofcorse you will need one for your self I belive when I asked at ford it was almost $100 for a new key I did not ask about the remote that might have been included it's easy enough to give them a call and ask.
I would think if you needed 2 keys to make a new one we would have all gotten 3 when we got the car otherwise you would be SOL if you ever lost one.

Yeah, just go to Ford about it. Each car has a unique code which the keys need to be programmed with for them to work, so basically Ford has to do it. They are kind of expensive (it was over $100 when I asked about getting an extra key cut).
And do not get the key cut wherever and put it into your ignition without having it all programmed. Apparently that will mess up the computer in the ignition and you'll end up with a much bigger bill to get that all straightened out.

I recommend that everyone buy a 3rd key (either eBay or through the dealer), have it cut, and program the new key by following the procedure in the manual (pg 70 in my 2006 manual) with your two original keys. I bought a key from Ford for $40 (ouch!), which they cut at no charge. I programmed it myself when I got home. So I spent $40 to avoid having to pay triple digits if I ever lost a key.
I just happened to stop in to my local lock smith & asked him about a new key for my 06 GT. They haverather large business & are considered the best in my area. They have the machine to read the code from one key & put it in a new key. He quoted me $30.00 for the new key & a $55.00 one time set up fee for his key reader. Dealer would charge about $40 for key & $95 labor. Call your local locksmith & ask if they have the machine, plus if I need another they will have it set up already.
Ford keys use a Passive anti-lock system (PATS). You need two key to be able to program a new one yourself. If you only have one key, you have to go to either the Ford dealer or a locksmith that has a scanner. I found this the hard way when I bought my expedition used and was only given one key. It cost me $95 to get a second one made. Shop around, different locksmiths have different prices.
Good News - got my new key made and programmed, along with the one remaining original re-programmed from a locksmith, who made a house call, for $60.00!! Never thought I'd be excited about a $60.00 KEY, but it was less than half of what the dealer wanted!
Now I want to get two extras, some people talked of getting aftermarked keys with a blue ford oval logo, instead of just the imprinted one. Anyone know where I can get some of these? No luck on ebay.
