is this a must?
Looking into getting a cold air intake is a throttle body spacer a must? plus I'm not really interested in a tune but heard in other forums that if you intended in even putting in aK an N FILTER not CAI that our computers are sensitive and need a tune. dont want to void my warranty thanks. Just lookin for an extra30 hp or so.

You don't need a throttle body spacer. Most would say its a waste of money anyway. I have one just becauseI got it cheap. It just made the intake sucking noise louder and maybe added a slight bit of throttle responce. To get the 30hp you are looking for, you are going to need a tune and a good intake system. Don't worry so much about thewarranty...you can always reflash to stock and take the intake out in no time. The K&N should not trigger a CEL but I don't think it adds much HP either.
I have the K&N. I had to take it off for class rules, but thet ship has long sailed now lol.
I recommend the Granatelli cai, because you can put their maf in it and the car will still run well with a stock tune. With the other cai's uhhh - not so much lol. It's dual purpose, and it has NITROUS BOSSES!

Technically, an intake will only void the warranty if they can prove that it caused the part to break. I had to take my car to the dealer to have the throttle body replaced. I had the K&N CAI at the time that does not require a tune and didn't have a tune on it. I did however leave the cable from the trouble code reader that I have on the floor on the passenger side. They saw the cable and told me that if I had a tune installed to change the throttle position, they could not touch the car. I assured them that it wasn't and they changed the throttle body with no problem. Not all dealers care and I have heard of people taking their cars with the dragstrip numbers still on the windows to the dealership for warranty work with no problems. In order to get the 30hp, you will need to have a tune. The K&N aircharger CAI that I have only gives about 15hp without a tune. The other intakes with a tune average 25hp.

I recommend the AirRaid CAI, it has a MVT that you install so you don't need a tune, but later if you do want a dyno tune(best) you just remove the MVT(and its easy to do) for more HP gain. I don't have a tune yet but i could feel a big difference with mine and can't wait to remove the piece and get a tune for it.
The K&N, Granatelli, and AirRaid kit can be installed with no tune needed, the others you do. but like i said, with the Air Raid, it's adjustable.

25-28 HP or so is the norm for an intake AND a tune. You can get a little higher with a higher octane tune (92/93 octane)
The tune-less CAIs like the granatelli are good if you are on a strict budget. However, they are NOT as good as a CAI plus a tune.
The reason is that these tune-less CAIs use a non standard MAF sensor to alter fueling. However, they cannot adjust other parameters like timing, throttle control, or transmission shift points (automatic trans). A tuner CAN adjust these other factors, which is why a tuner will make more power than a tuneless CAI. Don't forget that a tuner is also useful for other things like reading codes, performing speedo corrections if you change your gears or tires, and so on.

What a difference a custom tune makes! I had to put my stock tune back in because my battery went dead and the car went to the shop. I could not wait to get the 87 ran out of the car so I could get the 93 and tune back in it.
Just my opinion.

so whos actually ran their CAI/tune car at the track? cause you can make dynos read whatever you want
TB spacer is JUNK dont bother with it, it will add the same as plugs and wires

I have entertained the idea of getting the C&L and tuning from SHM, but not sure if I want to spend the money on bolt-ons...might be more itnerested in a Kenne Bell or something, and call it a day. Still, an extra 30 or more hp isn't bad for about a $1000 investment (cdn funds, parts & labour and dyno tuning, and taxes)...wouldn't be so bad...
