Default Front End Shake Under Braking

My 05 V-6 has a shake in the steering wheel during braking from highway speeds...like slowingfor anoff ramp. The brake pedal does have some pulse in it as well. It also does it during brakingin city driving but not as bad. The car only has 25000 miles on it.
Does anyone else have this problem?[sm=dontgetit.gif]
The Ford dealer said the front brake rotors are warped and needs new front pads. He wants $120 to turn the rotors and install new pads. What would make the rotors warp at 25000 miles?

Not sure of the cause... but the diagnosis sounds correct... Of course with the way rotors are made these days, with 25,000 miles they'll probably be out of spec and the dealer won't be able to turn them...

What you are experiencing is commonly considered to be warped rotors and may very well be. In these days of spray on tire foam, however, it is more common to be caused by using tire foam without thoroughly covering the wheel openings. When this happens, the foam gets on only portions of the rotor and can cause this to happen. It can even permanently warp the rotors due to the development of hot spots on the rotor due to the lubricating effect of the foam on only part of the rotor, causing the dry portion to heat at a much faster rate.

If you are using tire foam, or anything slippery that gets onto the rotor, this might be your problem. Before having the rotors turned, drive the car awhile without letting anything onto the rotor and see if the problem goes away.

Good luck,

Your driving, give yourself more room to stop and you wont have this problem.
Also, VERY IMPORTANT - when youre getting your wheels and tires rotated, balanced whatever you MUST TORQUE the wheels on to the car using the proper TORQUE SEQUENCE. Most people tighten the lugs in a clockwise or counterclockwise manner. That is wrong. It needs to be tightend in a star pattern. Thatll help prevent rotor warpage even if you do drive aggressivly.

Can of brake clean from local parts store will clean rotor. Spray it on heavy.
Ride your brakes for a couple blocks to make them heat up, this will take anything on them off. If it's (shake) there after this, it's a warped rotor and long as the pads are still ok.
Rotating the tires also helps with wheel shake and bearing noise.
If you have aftermarket wheels on your car make sure they take off the clips that hold the rotor on, unless there are big holes for the lugs.

I'll have to agree here that it can be your rotors -- the $120 should be only for your rotors as the pads are part of your warrenty and are free... check your warrenty to make sure but I get mine free from the dealership.

I feel that at 25K miles, you are due for a brake service. From my experience your brakes last 20-25K miles. So your dealer is right.

Buy the ceramic brake pads instead of stock when you do your brakes, way better and the best upgrade for 70 bucks.

fast driving and hard stops will certainly warp your rotors over time. however, 25000 miles is enough to do that.

now that your front brakes are shot, you gonna wear your seatbelt?
