I would just get a paint rated over the temp of what the valve covers mite get too. Better to be safe and not have to worry.

I got the Dupli-color rated for 500 degrees and both places I went to said it would be fine but my father-in-law said to use 1200 degrees. All the google searches used 500 but I don't want to be doing this over again. Plus there is only 6 colors for the 1200 and 36 colors for the 500.

How long have you had the clear on there and did you paint them any color before putting the clear on? sorry just read you polished them.

I have an IR laser temp probe but even with a warmedup engine its 30 degrees out and I don't know if the temp would be valid for a summer day

I did some datalogging with my laptop, and the head temp never gets over 226 according to SCT live link. So I would think any paint rated higher than that would be fine.
