Well if you have a cai, and no tune, you're most likely running lean, therefore a tune is almost neccissary. Save up another 200 bucks and either get yourself a tuner from brenspeed or get a custom one if theres a local shop around you. Running too lean = very bad news for your engine if you get on it.

What kind of CAI...I know K&N makes one with no tune needed. You wont run lean on a CAI designed for no tune.

Your k&n cai = good mod....you k&n cai with tune = best mod you'll get on your car before any forced induction. Seriously, save 200 more dollars and get the tune. Not only will you feel more power but the throttle response is amazing, that and it will run much smoother. Just my .02

Forgive my ignorance as I am a complete beginner when it comes to mods and basically cars in general, but can somebody explain a tune?

Can you tune and still use regular gas, or does it mean you have to go to premium?

You can get a tune for, depending on your area, 87,89,91, or 93 octane. If you want to save money on gas, install the 87 tune. If you feel like using 93 tune, empty the tank, install 93 octane, install programmer and upload the 93 tune. Or 91.
for the 225 bucks, maybe a mid pipe or pulleys. I would save up and get a bigger diameter CAI and Tune. The K&N CAI tubing goes to stock diameter before and alittle after the mass air(so no tune is needed)and then opens up. Get a CAI that's all the way opened up and install the tune. The AirRaid CAI, you stick the MVT in the CAI opening and it makesthe mass air sectionsmaller so you don't need a tune, but when you get the tuner, you take out the MVT so the CAI flows more (4in diamter all the way) then install your tune.

My advice would be to save that $225 and wait till you can get something that is worth spending the money on.
