Default I need traction!!

I washave been thinkingof getting 3.73's for my auto, but I need to be able to get better traction with the gears I've got now before I do that. I wouldlike to be able to floor it from a stand still without just bouncing off of the rev limiter and shifting to second immediately. I have 275's in the rear (Coopers). How much wider tire can I go with useing my Roush 18 x 10's without wheel rub if my car has not been lowered? What performance tire has the best traction? I don't want drag radials because they don't last.

I would think the next improvement (bang for buck) would be a better lower control arm, but I have never had wheel hop. Do lca's reduce wheel spin, or just reduce hop? I would think dropping the rear would help some too, but then we are talking about adjustable lca's and panhard bar if you drop it much.

Suggestions and comments from the experts would be appreciated.

Lower control arms and lower control arm relocation kit made a big difference in my car. I have BMR billet lower control arms with the relocation kit. I was driving on ice with throttle applied before and now the car really seems to bite on the road. It's not that the car has a ton of traction, but there was a very noticeable improvement then what it was before.

Put some mickey thompsons on there...doesnt really matter how wide they are, they can be 8's and you wont be able to break em.

You can fit a 305 on that 10" rim with no problem at all. Actually, you could probably go up to a 315.

Alright Bro,Im gonna give out an age old secret! This is what I did & my car hooks when I do this!First off, shave 200lbs off the car. This is how you do it.BMR sway bar delete(This lets you take 26lbs off the nose while letting the nose come up hard for weight transfer),Take evrything out of the trunk!(tire, jack, trunk liner & plastic moldings(This is good for an honest 65-70lbs),Buy an off road x pipe(this will delete those heavy cats and give you about an honest 8-10HP.Using the O/R x pipe will delete an honest 25-30lbs)Take the CAT heat sheilds off & those metal flanges with the rubber flaps off from in front of the gas tank(An honest 4-5lbs)Since you have an automatic there is a heat shield there you can remove(Check in with SYDER here on the forum.Heard this from him) & re fab one from aluminum(Weight savings,I dont know. But I heard alot!)I would replace the drive shaft next with one of SPYDER'S one piece shafts(Same guy as mentioned above). This will increase RWHP & shave dramatic weight(20lbs?),LCAs are a MUST!(They not only help with hooking up but will shave about 5lbs if you get the billet ones). Now that we've shaved about 200lbs we are going to put it back into the car.Thats right, back into the car! What you will do is buy (2) bags of sand weighing 100lbs each and put both bags in the trunk! One on the drivers side & one on the passenger side! You have now relocated weight in the car to where it needs to be and you dont weigh anymore then you did when you started out!Now you have more HP and are hooking like a **** with just a good set of BFG tires! You could always just say screw the weight savings & put the bags of sand in the trunk.I would at least empty out the trunk though due to its easy factor of completing!Let me know how it turns out for ya!

BTW,we are talking less than a grand to do this & you will gain big time in your 1/4 times!Spyder sez you will pick up 2 tenths with the D/S and with the weight tranfer we discussed (if you can drive) I would venture you would pickup another 2 tenths!

I agree 100% with weight reduction. And not knocking BMR products at all because I have them on my car. But you can get a Granetelli radiator support delete from UPR for $79. That is half the price of BMR and is the same piece.

Is the front sway bar delete an off-road only mod? What does this do to handling on the street? I'm not big into taking curves fast, but don't want to drift off the road and into a tree either...
