Default dead battery

Ok everyone - add one more pony to the list that experienced
the dead battery issue after sitting in my garage for a week.

I know there have been posts on this before.
Can someone refresh my memory on the suspected problem?

thanks.
Brad

Maybe you left a light or radar detector on. Get a Optima spiral cell gel battery, you probably just have a bad Motorcraft battery they are junk.

some have said to turn off your audio system before shutting the car down; it may not go into proper "sleep" mode.

Didn't work for me. Battery still died. Ford techs and Ford corporate said nothing is wrong...they wouldn't even replace the battery that died twice since all tested good.

Ford says that the electronics in today's cars can cause batteries to die after sitting for more than a week. My dealership, to their credit, believes that to be BS and that there is something wrong. Only problem is that everything tests fine and they don't know what to fix.

Meanwhile car has not been sitting so I haven't had any more problems...I have 28 more months on the warranty........and will deal with this when I have more time....

Mine died after sitting for 4 days. I took it out & recharged it then tested each cell with a hydrometer (89 cents at wallmart). 1 cell was reading much lower that others, the eye on the battery was red not green. I figured I got a bad battery, there is a TSB for bad cells in battery. I took the battery back to dealer cause I have pulleys on & didn't want to return it to stock for that & they would not test the battery without the car. Every repair they have done for me (2) was botched & I had to fix it when I got home so I just bought myself an Interstate MTP 40R. much more power & no bad cell. The little blanket won't fit but who cares. The Interstate is about an inch longer but fits good. I've heard that the Otima is too tall & the terminals hit the hood. Optima doesn't list a battery for the S197's on their site. I am turning my radio off now which I never did before. I don't even know if turnine off radio will power down the Amps but I'll try it for know. My friends died the same week (also 2006) and he blamed it on his wife leaving the interior light on. The computer is supposed to turn off the light after 40 min, battery saver feature. I think he has problem too but wee'l see.

Isn't there a TSB for the alternator and battery
and slowing down the alternator would cause it to output less amps per RPM when its below the full output level
I think the alternater is about a 140 AMP
another thing you can do if it happens again is get an MSD 160 amp alternater it outputs full power at 2000 RPM's and I think they do have one that fits "I think"
But I'd wait awhile to see if the battery fixed to problem
I just called optima and the custemer service person said the size is 34R for the 06 mustang

I had same problem with my 05 GT. It was my factory amps. I had two that went bad and cause a 2 amp draw on the battery after the vehicle was turn off. I had 4 amps in total go bad.

good luck
