Default First Oil Change

Ok, being a do-it-yourselfer, I tackled the first oil change in the Mustang today. I went with the stock Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 and a Fram filter. In al took about 25mins. The reason for this post is I used these: http://mustangworld.com/ourpics/News/mwramps/index.htm ramps. I love them, best $40 Ive spent. I tried to use rhino ramps when I installed my shifter but kept dragging the bottom of the front bumper on them. These worked GREAT!! No dragging and had plenty of room too maneuver under there to get at the drain plug. They did not slide on the asphalt parking lot and seemed VERY stable. The only down side i see after using them once is they are kinda heavy and would not be very easy to load in the trunk of the mustang. For changing my and my wife's oil around the house they will work just fine.

Hope all are having a great day,

Joel

Fram filters are rated very low. Motorcraft filtershave the proper silicon check valve to keep the system primed. Walmart sells both the Motorcraft filter & oil. I was told by the dealer to use the Motorcraft filter but they tell you a lot of BS.

Ditto^^ use Motorcraft filters, Fram just had a bad lot jam up some engines with paper element.

K&N filters FTW!!!!!!

you can get em for less than 10 bucks, they have quality parts inside and a nut on the bottom for easy removal

K&N are rated slightly higher than Fram. Motorcraft are very highly rated. This is from a test by an independant tester that was on an MF thread. They appeared to be very comprehensive tests.

The sad thing is there WAS a time where Fram filters were easily the best, now I think they are consistently rated as the worst.....why do companies like this get lazy?

Cool, Ill know better next time. That wasnt the reason for the thread but thanks for the helpfl information. I made those ramps lissted and they are a goood fit for me. I can tell that I will have plenty of room to change the oil and lift the back end up to install my Axle Backs (when I get them).

Thanks for all the replies!

I might build a set myself, they look like a better option then light weight plastic ones. Thanks for the link.

Do they creep or slide when you start to go onto them? I presume your car is not lowered. I've pretty much given up the idea of lowering mine. Recently I ran over an empty paint can that was standing in the street. It got wedged under the car and took me ten minutes to free it. That cured my desire to lower it.
