I usually let my car warm up only to get the defrost going ahead of time so I don't have to scrape windows, but nothing wrong with driving on a cold startup, the 5-20 syn is in there for that reason.

and some of the top oils have additives that stick to metal so it prevents truly cold starts by having a thin layer of lubrication already there[/b]

if its a V-6 use 5W-30 full syn
and most on here have done the fist change in less than 3000
what brand oil is up for debate I like RP some don't some like Red line, mobil one, but these are more pricy than the motocraft ford uses so if cost is an issue just use motocraft but you might still want to bump up to full syn instead of simi syn

Modern cars don't need "warm up" time. The excessive idling is just a waste. Most people will do it to warm up the inside and defrost the windows but the engine itself doesn't need it.

Regular Ca weather I wait for her to idle down at least.. maybe 30sec or so just so everthing gets fluids. If it's really cold maybe like 2 minutes.
