Default Live with the (TPMS) light!!

I did quite a bit of searching on here for information about the TPMS sesnors because I wanted aftermarket wheels, but I didn't want an annoying light staring back at me every time I got into the car. After I found out the dealer wants 200 bucks for the TPMS straps, I just instllalled the wheels with no sensors and I'm happy to say I made the right choice. The light only comes on about every 10 start ups, and even then it only stays on for about 5 seconds and beeps maybe 2-3 times. I was going to follow what some other did on here, with the pvc pipe and all, but it's such a non issue, I'm not going to even bother. Thanks to whomever it was that had "Live with the Light" in their post because I'm glad I followed that advice.

Thank you so much for sharing. I think my TPMS batteries will die before it's time to replace the tires. Glad to know this.

Mine has yet to come on (the actual light)

What does come on at every start-up is the tire monitoring system error on the digital dash readout. Since I have to reach up to turn off the traction control anyway, I just hit that and the re-set button at the same time to turn off the warning message. No biggie!

Glad to hear this, I didn't want to shell out the bucks for extra sensors either. Thanks.

I think it was in here a while ago where a guy bought a pvc tube glued a cap to one end, mounted the sensors to a tongue depressor or something like that and put it in the tube then put a cap on the other end, drilled a hole in the end and put a tire valve in the hole, inflated the tube to 32psi and mounted that in his trunk.....no more TPMS errors

This system works. I have had it done for about a month now and put about 200 m iles on the car since and no light. I mounted the sensors to a paint stir stick, and filled the tube with packing popcorn (the styrofoam stuff) to keep the rattling down. It is hung in my trunk behind the rear speakers using zip-ties. Outta sight, outta mind! I just don't understand why the government requires these to be on all new cars 2007 and newer. No wonder half of the country is overweight. Everything is done for you. Even your car checks your tire pressure now. I actually like to check mine at least once every 2 weeks.

Actually, I think this stems fromaccidentspeople were having with high center-of-gravity vehicles (SUVs) like the Explorer. When tire pressures get low, the tires can overheat and sometimes fail (as in Firestone). The resulting blowouts were causing deadly vehiclerollovers. The TPMS is designed to avoid this from happening by alerting you that one or more tires are low. For the auto enthusiast who is careful about tire pressures, this isn't likely to be of much consequence. But for the average person who rarely checks his or her tires, it couldsave their life.

It is a safety issue. Low air pressure is responsible for more tire failures than any tire defect in history. Low air pressure causes the tire to heat up due to excessive flex which cause the tire to come apart, especially in hot climates where the added ambient temp adds to the heating. With todays tires it is very hard to look and tell the air pressure is down, even as much as 5 or 10 lbs. By the time you can see it the tire is seriously low.

Of course, those of use who care about our cars and safety routinely check our tire pressures. It is the"soccer moms" who never do, would not know what to do if they did, and couldnot care less as they might be late for their double latte triple frap fruitachino.[]
