Default Steeda Tri-ax Installed.

Mail man dropped it off while I was out running errands, so when I got home I opened it all up. Jacked the car up and got to work.It was just me and on Jackstands, so there won't be any pictures but I've been studying this Hurst Short Throw Shifter - 2005 2006 Mustang | FordMuscle Magazine for reference. Steeda's instructions, like always, suck. Apparently people were complaining about the front bushing being too loud or vibrating too much, so they tell you to take the old bushing off and use that.

I was determined not to have to drop the driveshaft, and a rachet wrench would have been quite useful. Anyway, I did run into a few problems. Removing the old one wasn't so bad, for the most part I moved it as much as I could from underneath, and then worked it from the top. The Tri-ax is a lot beefier in comparison to the stock one, so getting that in was a little more difficult. Also the dust boot gave me problems both when removing/installing it again.

Initially I installed the handle on the left side, but that was a little close to the console/shifter bezel so I just now switched it over to the right side... and I think that's where it's supposed to go anyway as it's lined up almost evenly like the stock shifter.

It hasn't worn in yet so I can't really give a good review. 2nd and 3rd are really smooth, especially 2nd. 1st and 4th are a little tight. 5th and Reverse are tight. However during hard acceleration it fell into all the gears pretty effortlessly, minus 5th. The shifts themselves are so close, which is what I wanted; along with a higher lever. All in all, I'm quite satisfied.

I'd like to thank Brenspeed for their great service.

Thanks for the write up....did you use the stock bushing in the front like they suggested or did you use Steeda's? Isn't the steedas supposed to be stiffer or more durable than the stock one? I have one but it is not installed yet so was curious about the answers to above questions. Thanks J

The only question I have is why the Steeda over the Hurst? I've just read good things about the Hurst, but I really like Steeda's product lineup [i'm pretty ignorant, let's be honest here!]. Just curious before I pull the trigger on one or the other later this summer!

Steeda stop supplying the front bushing with their Tri-ax, from what I was told. You're more or less forced to purchase the new bushings if you want them. I was under the impression that it came with the bushing, so I was forced to use the old one. There is no vibrating or noises coming from the shifter, but too early to tell. Couple hundred miles and I should have an idea.

I have the steeda in mine as well, 5th and reverse suck, even after 2 years and 40k. Only issue I have with it is the return spring broke inside the shifter and I have to send it back for repair.

I originally planned on getting the hurst, but Brenspeed isn't recieving any. From what i've been told Hurst is redesigning the shifter and no one knows when they'll be getting any in. The hurst looks great, but it's more or less the same design as the stock shifter, except it has a shorter throw.

The Tri-ax is completely different in all aspects, and just seems like it's constructed better. I'm glad I went with the Tri-ax. I loctite'd and lubed everything I felt needed it, so hopefully I will have a problem-free shifter.

Menace,
Congrats man!! I know you have been working on this deal for awhile now. Glad it worked out for you in the end...... I assume the one you received was "as pictured" in the second picture from your earlier post??

Yep, George has had my order and CC info for about two weeks, just waiting for the shipping confirmation. That shifter looks awesome, and I cannot wait to get it installed. I have grown a bit tired of the Saleen shift block, only because the throw is only about 25% less than stock....Ready for the other half.....

Yeah Mike, Brenspeed just has an older picture up. Steeda upgraded the shifter and they just haven't upgraded the display picture.
