MAC CAI bad?
Just wanted to put a quick note out here praising one of our sponsors: Brenspeed. I placed an order for a MAC CAI and XCal2 tuner about a week ago. They contacted me last Friday to let me know it was shipping on Monday, but that they were having quality issues with the MAC CAI. They asked if it was ok to upgrade me to the Steeda intake at no additional charge (which I of course accepted). Now that's customer service!
As a side note though, I don't know the details of the quality issues, but those of you considering a MAC CAI may want to reconsider!

RE: MAC CAI bad?
I got my parts today from Brenspeed and immediately went and installed them. As most people have noted, its extremely easy to do. The hardest part of the install was putting the foam tubing around the edge of the air box. It's unruly and difficult to work with. Aside from that, a piece of cake!
The difference? Amazing! It's like a whole new car! Sound is slightly different (you can hear the engine suck air in when you gun it), and the car seems to have power off the line. Gotta say, I'm extremely impressed. Well worth the money. Now I can focus on a few more visual mods.

Daniel60, where'd you get the Brenspeed sticker? I didn't have any shipped with my kit, but I did get a Steeda sticker. I don't think I'm going to put it on because I kind of feel it implies I have something better under the hood (supercharger), but I'd be proud to advertise for those Brenspeed guys. Love the position on the bumper too!

kindred169,
let me know your fuel economy now that you have the car modded!
I am considering going fore the same combo, but I wonder how that will affect my fuel economy (considering my driving style will not change, which is not obvious...).
Thx,

RE: MAC CAI bad?
Hey Enzo51,
I'm currently running the 87 tune, so I can only speak to that. Prior to the tune, about 8 months of driving was averaging out at about 24 mpg. After one week of driving with the tune and CAI, I'm averaging about 19 mpg. One might think that I've taken a hit on fuel economy, but I suspect it has more to do with the amount of city driving I've done in that last week, and how little I've been on the highway. I think over time I'll find the tune had very little effect on my overall fuel economy.
With that said, I now find it extremely hard not to gun it, so maybe my MPG will start to reflect that. Seriously, it's a great mod. I'd suggest going through with it!
