Default Gears Installed - Possible Problem

I had FRPP 3.73 gears installed last week from a very reputable shop. I have noticed no gear whine, but I have been hearing a sort of clanking sound. It sounds like it is coming from the rear. It happens when I am braking and occurs right before I come to a complete stop. I don't hear it at all when accelerating. It seems loudest when I am also turning, but I believe I have heard it faintly in straight line braking, too. It isn't a continuous sound, just a momentary metallic clank or clatter. And it occurs on perfectly smooth road, not going over bumps or anything.

Any idea what this could be?

Check your brake calipers and brackets. These are removed during the installation of the gears. Also check your ABS sensors.

Did they add friction modifier? Sounds like your clutch packs making noise. Mine make the same sound when coming to a stop, but never if the car is perfectly straight. I have to have the wheel turned ever so slightly to get them to do it. Every time I turned into a parking space i here that sound.

Its not the gears. Its the play in the driveline.

When you had the new rearend gears installed the PCM had to be reprogrammed for 3.73's. With the newprogramming the KAM was ereased.
When you test drove the car after the gear install you probably were a little surprised at how hard the tranny shifted, this will slowly change and may take a while.
The AutomaticTransmission Adaptive learning will have to relearn your driving habits and continue to fine tune the shift scheduling.ref. Mustang Owners Manul.

Enjoy the 3.73's.

I had noticed that the automatic was shifting maybe a little harder than normal. The sound (the clanking) doesn't seem to be appearing now as much a few days later. So this sound could have been the car/computer adjusting to the new gear ratio?

Another thing I have noticed is that the suspension seems noiser now when going over bumps. What could occur during a gear install that would cause this? Or is this just in my head...

The last thing anyone should do when taking a new medicine is read the possible side effects....... I think all these threads about problem's with gear installs has you spooked. Yes your car will shift harder when you accelerate, that's why you put these gears in. Hit the gasfrom a 10 mph roll and enjoy your new mod, and stop looking for side effects.
