CAI worth it???
I am considering just getting a tune from somewhere as my first mod on my 06 GT. I have a couple of reasons for not wanting the CAI. The airbox in the GTis pretty much the sameone in the GT500; if it can suck enough air for a 500 horse supercharged 5.4L then I think it is more than sufficient. Feedback? I have researched and I think I will go with Breenspeed, anyone disagree? Thanks
I had the same debate and came to the conclusion after research that the effects of the CAI and tune are additive/complimentaryand worth the investment. You should bounce the question off Brenspeed.
A number of CAI companies are claiming substantial gains over the stock air box on the GT500 <shrug>.

If your going to go with breenspeed then theres no point in getting a tune and not the CAI. Look at there packages you end up paying about 150 to 200 bucks for the CAI, a real deal. Theres no doubt that you should get a CAI, everyone gets one, and theres a reason for that... It provides the most gains, with a tune, without getting a blower or NOS. After you get one you'll feel the differance and hear that puppy sucking that air in everytime you punch it. You wont regret it.

CAI is probably the cheapest mod interms of $/hp. the ratio turns out to be like $5 per 1 hp, maybe $15 per 1 hp if you get a really bad deal. CAI is the way to go

CAI alone is not going to give you maybe 15 HP and its 200 for a good one....so that is $13/HP
CAI/Tune package is about $25/HP but you get 25-28 hp gain and you can use the tuner for many other mods. It is the best $$/HP mod out there really.
So what is considered a good deal on a CAI/Tune combo?
I've heard good things about both Brenspeed and b a m a so I'm weighing them both right now as I'm still a ways off from being ready to make the purchase.
I know from experience that making more HP requires more air. The stock airbox may be "adequate," but it seems to me that if you are going to do mods, and can afford to do mods, then you should get the most bang for your buck. I'd assume that getting a CAI along with a tune would be the way to do just that.

I just put in my JLT CAI plus tune from B A M A on Saturday. Best thing I could have done. What a rush of power. Put it this way, your car will wake up with a tune and stock airbox, but with a CAI you will get more air delivered and with a proper tune for that CAI, you will get a serious rush. If you do it, do it right. Its well worth it..

But you did the math for everyone, so I trust your assessment
Its baloney. If you get a CAI you then have to get the tuner. So, in reality it's more like $550-$600 dollar hp option gain. There are a few who advertise that you don't need a tune with their CAI. Then when it arrives you find out that the instructions inform you that "you may toss engine codes" without a tune. BTW, there's no "may" about it. You toss codes. The CAI looks alot better under the hood then the stock air box. The days of buying a flshy air cleaner housing are over. You want the looks then you need to incorporate a tuner to maintain problem free operation. Right now I have a BBK sitting in a box in my garage. It looked terrific when installed. And the "Engine trouble" light had a nice amber glow to it at the same time. I'm waiting until the warranty expires , then I'll load a tune. One more thing. I didn't sense any noticeable horse power gain as I cruised the streets. But I did have a $200 "flashy air induction system".
