Default Uh oh.. Broken locking lug nut..

Bad news.. I just put my new 20" wheels on last night and when I was torquing the lugz, the head of my locking lug nut snapped off!! Now I have just a threaded tube on my stud!! You can see the end of the stud is flush with broken lug nut, and both are up inside the wheel counterbore about 3/8-1/2"... Any ideas how I can safely remove this without damaging my new wheel??Appreciate any ideas... Thanks..

Take a socket that is slightly smaller that the lug nut, bang it on with a hammer and remove. Destroys the socket but gets the lug not off

Will it grab even though the outside of the lug is round and smooth?? 6pt or 12 pt??

Use 12 pt. Banging it on forces it to grab.

this is why we/your not supposed to torque wheel locks..

we put em on with the gun which torques it at about 80-100.. and then thats it.. we torque aroudn them..

I was right at 100 ft-lbs when she let go... Of course, it may have been hammered previously and weakened. Thanks for the tip.. NOW to get it off.. I wonder if they make and easy-out that grabs on the outside (OD)??

How about a Spiral Easy Out? Drill a hole in the center of the broken lock insert Spiral Easy Out and remove. I think that would do the trick.

EDIT: I reread your post and see that the lock broke off at or below the stud, so forget what I said.
