Default Upgrade OEM Stereo System

We have a brand new 2007 Mustang GT with the standard one CD OEM stereo system. We would like to upgrade the stereo system, but keep it OEM. Does anyone know if we can replace the standard one CD stereo system we now have with a Ford OEM 6 CD changer system? Can it be replaced with a Shaker 500? If so, do we need new harnesses?

Thanks for all your replies!

if youre going to replace the head unit dont do it with a shaker 500. why do you want to keep it standard? for looks or what? the shaker500 is a joke

I agree, the shaker 500 is barely average, go aftermarket.......better sound and value.

Upgrading from base to 500 or 1000 is hard because many of the parts are missing (amps, subs, wiring, etc). It wouldn't be cost effective.

Not if you have the First Edition 05's hehe... I have all the wires in mine, just not the system...

would be better money spent to go aftermarket, think about the stock shaker 1000. I seriously doubt that tiny little amp with a 30 AMP fuse is putting down 400 watts.

Quick math 30 Amps X 12 volts = 360 watts, yeah that sounds more like it. Spend your money on aftermarket it will sound WAY better.

I love my single CD base head unit that Ford put in the 07 Mustang. The auxillary jack in the armrest is so nice to have. I just plug my MP3 player into it, set it on shuffle, throw it in the armrest, and jam. I rarely use CDs. Mine sounds pretty good, b ut I have upgraded it with this:

Scosche 12" custom box for the Mustang and a Precision Power DCX 800.5 5-chanel amplifier. I will soon be adding either Boston acoustics or Diamond speakers in the doors and rear deck to complete the system.

Anyone have any suggestions as to some aftermarket HUs? I myself am looking to upgrade my HU to an aftermarket, andwhich will still have that AUX input port so that I can connect either my XM radio unit or iPod/PSP for MP3s...
