Hood Scoop Install help
I'm getting ready to install my Roush hood scoop. Everything I've seen on the forum talks about removing the insulation from under the hood before drilling holes. Is this necessary? It seems to me I could drill the holes through the insulation, and then widen the hole to install the nut on bolt; end of project. Am I overlooking something? Help appreciated!
Two things.....
One, that means you tear up your under hood blanket to make holes to put the nuts on the bolts......Not good...
Two, you will have all sorts of aluminum drilling shaving floating around above your hood liner, just waiting to fall all over your engine....VERY BAD....
Just take it off, cover the engine, drill, and be done. The blanket only takes about 5 minutes to remove.....

I found that the hood insulation has to come off - I tried to work with it on still when I did my Roush (because I had the dealer glue it up to keep it from rubbing when they replaced it for the second time) and you can't get to the bolts except for the very front ones. Take the insulation off - put a blanket over your engine to catch the shavings, then reinstall the insulation liner.
Ever try drilling thru carpet.
It gets all wadded up on
the drill bit not to mention
all those aluminum chips
that would be hiding between
the liner and hood. Use some
tape on those hole locations
to help prevent the paint from
chipping durring drilling.
A magnet will help picking up
all those stray aluminum chips
for you. LOL
