Installed lt's:Write-up
Installed some long tube headers on my friends 05 mustang gt. Overall, the install was pretty easy. We ran into a few problems.
First we started off by spraying all the bolts down with pb blaster the night before, then the following night sprayed them again and got to work on the car. First we took off the intake and battery with the tray. Next we took of the serpentine belt. Then we got the car on jackstands ( you want to get the car as high as possible). Then we took of the stock mid-pipe with all the o2 sensors, then we took off the starter, and moved the a/c up ( just unplug the electrical and leave the lines connected).Next we had to move the rack and pinion foward, to do that their is two bolts on each side going into the k member: remove those and the steering shaft and it should move easily. Then we started taking off the stock exhaust manifolds which was pretty easy, on the passenger side their is one bolt directly above the engine mount and it is a bear to take out. As soon as you get all the nuts off on each side, start taking off the manifolds, then take off the studs. Now it was time to start installing the long tube headers, for the drivers side we took off the engine mount to do that we, jacked the engine up from the tranny and removed the bolts, then we put the lt's in place then put the mount back in. Some of the bolts are in hard to reach places, but take your time you'll get them. The passengers side should slip right in with some odd angles. THen we put in the x-pipe. Then reinstall everything you took out or moved. Start it up and let it idle till all the smoke clears. Keep the hood open, you will see alot of smoke come out from under the hood from the pb blaster, after that hope for no exhaust leaks. After that we turned it off and plugged in the sct2 and put in are tune. Took it for a test drive, was kinda sluggish at first due to the computers memory being wiped. After that very nice gain of power in the upper rpms. And it also sounds AMAZING. Very loud and broad. I wouldn't pay to get it done, do it yourself, good experience and lots of fun. Ill make a better write up soon with pics, if you have any questions for now just pm me.
