Default Which header size?

I'm going to be buying longtubes within the next few days and was wondering which size you guys would go with: 1 3/4 or 1 5/8?

Anyone?
The general rule of thumb is 1-5/8 for those not going with nitrous, S/C or turbo. Go with 1-3/4 if you DO intend to go with a power adder in the near future. Hope that helps.

Are there any differences in the gains between the two sizes?

1 3/4 the way to go. If ya going to spend some cash spend it in quality material, the difference is only in the thickness of the steel, gains are the same.

Im pretty sure that the 1 5/8 will give you a little more midrange power than the 1 3/4, and the 1 3/4 will give a little more high end power than the 1 5/8.

Exactly, which is why the 1 5/8 is recommended for non-power add cars. The gains are modest either way, it just depends what part of the power band needs help...

go with 1 5/8 if you are going to stay na. but if you are going to add a power adder go with the 1 3/4

I want to eventually put a power adder on, but I have no idea when that would be... :x

I am running the 1 3/4 mac long tubes and prochamber and I gained 30 lbs tq between 5000 and 6450 rpms and 16 hp. but dyno temp before was at 65 degrees and with headers was @ 90 so I'm probably more at a 23 or so hp gain. I would recommend the mac headers from my experience, wasnt too keen on the prochamber, but it seems to work well. I cant speak for the other brands. I also am planning on installing a prochamber and stroking mine out to a 302 this winter after the race season is over
