Thermostat
Before the age of computers controlling everything on a car, lower thermostats were abetter idea. Now, your car is designed to run around that 180 degree thermostat. You won't see any real difference with a thermo swap. Sure it's hot outside in arizona, but the thermostat still keeps the engine at 180. If you're worried that the car is struggling to keep cool, then keep in mind, it's the fan and the coolant that actually do the work, not the thermostat, so your car will actually be working harder to achieve the same result. Just my $.02.
+1 with nineinchnail and chapman (so I guess that should be a +2?)...a small-block ford is one thing, but that cpu wants to see 180 and may not adjust timing, air/fuel etc. properly until it does...
Its called a custom tune fellas.....Installing a 160 degree thermostat will help keep the motor running a shade cooler(15-20 degrees).which is beneficial when sitting at traffic lights in extreme heat.I also put the Royal Purple additive in my radiator as well.Everyone has an oppinion & are fully entitled to it.But when a man who did all the programming for Diablos hand held tuners & has been a part of building some serious S197s(including a long block for me in the works now)tells me it's a good idea to run a 160 thermostat Im doing it! BTW,,you also (through that custom tune I mentioned) can have your fans kick on earlier around 160-170 instead of 190 degrees.
^^^ oh yeah, oops, forgot you could do all the adjustments w/ the tuner. my bad![sm=oopssign.gif]
...guess I was in a time warp somewhere between the old carb'd small blocks and OBDII when I wrote that...lol...
