ok... im not afraid of launching... its the burnout that scares me...hence my hesitation to run at the local dragstrip...i have a stick and i am not quite sure about how to burnout a stick without screwing things up or hitting someone... my guess is rev it up, dump the clutch, quickly tap the brakes ( but not too hard as to stop the brakes and kill the engine looking like a moron)... would shifting to second be better? or leave it in first?... i am not good at the heel-toe method yet, so anyone help me?
I did that very thing, I just had to laugh and forget it. My best times on street tires were without smokey burnouts prior to launching though. You just need practice.

Yeh if you arent on slicks, dont do a burnout, no point.

If you really want to tho, just rew it up, drop the clutch, keep the gas in and press the break. Monitor your rpm's (dont want to red line) and ease out of the brake, then ease out of the gas.

Your natural reactions will kick in once you have the tires spinning.

And this may be a moot point, but make sure you're on smooth, wet pavement. And clean too if you don't want to scratch the *&%$ out of your fenders.Rough concrete is no good. You can begin small, doing just a little chirp. You won't overrev, don't worry. Your stang has built-in coverage. Also, when practicing, like someone said previously, don't allow your tires to move off the wet pavement too far and suddenly grip the dry pavement...this is hard on the drivetrain.
