Default Shift Light Choice and Setting Question

1. I am looking to buy a shift light. Originally was leaning towards Raptor Performance. However, there are other shift lights (on eBay for example) for substantially less than the $117 Raptor.

Would you or have you purchased a cheaper brand light? Please explain.

2. Also, can anyone suggest what should a good street performance shift point be set to? 2005 GT, manual, 4.10 gears

Thanks for the input.

I doubt you can get a light for less than a Raptor. I got mine for like $84 off ebay... it doesnt need any adaptor or pills so its an all in price. even a novice can install it. I did!!

mines set @ 5700 for now... gonna raise it to 6000. If you have an Xcal/Diablo u can adjust your rev limiter any place you want

Raptor is the best in MHO.
$50 new ebay.
Easy peasy to hook up.
Set it 200 RPMs below the desired
shift RPMs and by the time you
react, its 200 over the set point.

You can't beat the raptor. Any of the cheap shift lights require pills (not really sure what they are, but I assume they trigger the light).

Anyway mines set at 6200rpms and a bonus is it lights up everytime you start the car so it really freaks people out at night when I get gas. I got the green one, plenty bright.

157db,
I have not been here too long (since my 3 year absence). However I have to complement you.
I have seen a changed man in you lately.
There has been some harsh criticism directed your way lately, and I must say rightfully so ( in the recent past).
Although in the last few days you have cheered up quite a bit. It is a very pleasant surprise, since you seem to possess pretty good knowledge (in the electrical field in particular).
Keep up the good attitude and thank you for the advice

I prefer the Raptor. Others (Autometer, etc.) do not need pills, but they do need a tach adaptor ($50) to make the math work. Raptors can be switched for 4/6/8 cylinders. I have the blue LEDs, which cost more.
As far as wiring, look at their website. All you need to do is hook up power, ground and a sense wire to one of the coil packs over a spark plug. Run the wire through the big grommet behind the brake pedal and into the wheelwell (take off the rear well cover) and run the wire up towards the master cylinder to the valve cover.
