Default TPMS Summary

From what I read on this and other sites, I've come up with the following regarding the Tire Pressure Monitoring System.
If I want to use a 2nd set of tires and wheels (switch back and forth) on my car I can:

1. Buy a new set of monitors(transmitters) and bands and program them.(expensive)
2. Take the old monitors off the first set and stick them in a pressurized tube, toss it in the trunk, then I can use any set of wheels/tires I want without having to reset the computer. (what a pain)
3. Put the 2nd set of wheels/tires on the car without bands/transmitters and just push reset upon starting the car every time. And this does NOT hurt anything. (I don't mind doing this)

Is #3 ok to do? Please correct any of these if they're not right. Thanks.

#3 is ok to do. Just won't get a warning if you get a flat.

I have a quick question, if i were to take this in for inspection and that error code is on would they fail me? Just wondering since my inspection is up soon and i took my wheels/tires in to be mounted without new bands.

I've been living with the TPMS warning for a few months now. At first it wasn't a problem, but after a while it can very annoying. Not only does it come on when first cranking up, it will randomly go off while driving also. My recommendation would be to install the sensors in your new wheels when you first get them mounted, if you wait and do it later you will be putting it off, just like me. I hear American Muscle has the bands fairly cheap. As far as it hurting anything, I don't thing so, but I do think you could fail inspection, especially since it is mandated by federal law that all 07 and above vehicles will have it installed.

I have found that if I park close to my garage where I have by 17in bullets stored the light goes away for a couple of days.

could someone briefly explain how these things work?
Is it wireless transmitters in each wheel?
Should I be glad my 2005 doesn't have this? Of all the options I've seen in the luxury cars, this one never occured to me to be something I wanted. Unlike the more important things, like HID headlights, seat memory, compass mirror, telescoping steering, etc!

The TPMS sensors are attached to the inside of each wheel with a band. The sensor transmits a signal wirelessly to the PCM. I'm not sure how often the signal is sent/checked, but without the sensors installed on the car you'll get a Tire Pressure Warning with each start, and randomly while driving. In the past it was a luxury item, but from 07 on all vehicles will have the TPMS system installed because it is federally mandated.

The main problem is say you had 17" wheels stock, and decided to install 18" wheels you need new bands. When I changed wheels the bands were not cheap, I think they were roughly $50 a peice through Ford, and just about everywhere else. I've heard thru various post the bands can be found for around $50 for a set of four.

TPMS sucks and i'm glad they didn't have it for the 06's!

my wife got a new '07 nissan versa w/15" wheels. i want to buy her some larger wheels/tires but it has the TPMS as required...

i hear you might be able to reuse the ones from the stock wheels...
