I'm unaware of a "thunk" problem in the rear that is a factory issue. What mods have you done in the rear of the car? It's possible you could have a loose suspension component or a bushing failure.

btw - ...........if you jack up the car to look at things use JACKSTANDS

if you have an aftermarket axle-back or any aftermarket exhaust it could very well be the mid-pipe hitting the axle because the hangers are longer than stock and it lets the exhaust move a bit more...if its stock, it could be alot of different things.

lol, thanks rodeo! you know me!

no suspension mods.

8cd, i heard that there is an issue with the diff, i just spoke to my friend again. he said ford has a fix for it and it is free. i do have an axleback, mbrp. im sure no one would know if its them since no one has the mbrps. i did have the car on a lift tho, the axleback seemed real tight. who knows. ill call ford tomorrow and report back here.

thanks guys!

I took mine in to the Ford dealer right after I got it from CarMax (17k miles) and before the supercharger went on. They had a guy (who also had a Mustang GT) drive it around. He said that his clunked even more and that this was "normal" for these cars. Personally I think it is a bunch of crap. I can get it to not clunk, but I have to really think about the clutch/gas a LOT. My 2001 was not this way at all.
