Default 85 octane???

So, I'm out here in Colorado (luckily not in my stang) but anyway I'm seeing all these gas stations with 85 octane. I was wondering if there were any cars on the road that could run on this gas? I mean, aren't most cars today supposed to burn at least 87 octane. Just wondering...

Yes. I was running 89 in my v6 now I kicked up to 92 in my GT I think in the new gts it says in the handbook to use 89. Check to see if they have "plus" "premium" etc... Some won't advertise it because its more expensive. I'm sure they have it out there somewhere... But yes, 85 isn't very good :P

Edit: Use atleast 87.

gg wikipedia. Higher octane = cleaner burning / higher gas mileage / more power.

colorado has this fuel because of their altitude. higher altitude makes octane effectively higher, i think. i might be talking out of my ***, but this is what i was told when i was out in utah in the mountains trying to figure that one out.

I'm not talking about E85, but rather the "regular unleaded" is 85 octane rather than 87. Here, the 87 is mid-grade and thus more expensive. Just sounds like a rip-off to me

Well it obviously is a rip off... But then again, compare your prices to people in caliand im sure you wouldn't complain. I fill up with the best fuel possible every time, regardless of price. Kinda the same reason you use synthetic oil instead of the walmartcheapo stuff.
