Default what is needed for a "built" bottom end?

I am wanting to get my engine ready for a blower later down the road. I am still new to this type of modification, but I want to do it right. I know that people say 540-550bhp is at the upper limit of what the engine can handle, and that is the exact range i plan on being at. I don't want my engine running at it's upper limits though. So, is there a "kit" out there that would include everything I need to make the engine ready for a blower? If not, what are the pieces/parts I would need to shop for.

Thanks

Well the upper limit of the motors is mooted at being 500hp at the crank, which is about what a good whipple/KB/Vortech installation will give you on an otherwise stock 3v.

going up to 550hp is pushing the rods & crank somewhat, which is pretty much what you need to swap for forged/billet itemsin a 'built' short block.

Would it not be an idea to merely run the motor with the blower and see how it goes? I often wonder what 'running at the limit' means. With my current setup I am knocking on 500 crank-hp but I don't [can't] run it hard all the time by any stretch. I haven't been to the track and the cops around here seem to be able to sense impending horsepower release and appear at the most inopportune moments. Truth is, nealry every 500hp Mustangis stroked around 90% of the time.

Perhaps it doesn't take much to fold a rod over at this level but I'll wait until that happens and fix it then. If I put a rod through the casing I'll get a 32v Cobra motor in it [8D]

thanks for the information!

so basically i need upgraded crank and rods? what about pistons? sorry if this is all a noob question, but i want to do things right the first time.

also, is there a reputable online shop that sells these pieces (preferably in a kit of some sort)?

i would like to avoid having to swap in a new motor when it blows lol. also, what about a bigger "bore" (i think that's the right term) to make it a 5.0L? can i do all this at once (upgraded parts and a bigger displacement)?

again, thanks for all the information. i am looking forward to this project

I've heard most of the rotating assemblies that do this have a lot of slap which affects the knock sensors so you would have to disconnect them thus getting rid of a pretty important engine safety feature, the only one ive seen that you can use the knock sensors is the one saleen uses in the PJ saleen, but im not sure if its available aftermarket yet or not.

Yes you need to upgrade the pistons too. They aren't forged.
