cranks,will not start
05 5sp gt.filled up with gas and went to start the car.It will turn over but will not start.30k miles on car.Having it towed to dealer .I heard the fuel pump come on.Any ideas.Thank you
Battery might be dead. My battery already completely died and wouldn't hold a charge with only 31k miles. It'd turn over sometimes and other times it wouldn't, it'd hold BARELY enough charge even after driving for 2 horus to just turn over once if at all.
I'd look into that, Autozone will test it for free.

Most likely the alternator. That happened to me. My radio was on but no music was playing. Then a few days later i had the same problem as you. Turn it on and no start but cranking. Turned out the alternator went out. Sad thing is that my car was just out of warranty. Just thank your mustang that it happened under warranty still. lol
In the good 'ol days it used to be more straightforward - verify fuel, verify spark, etc. Nowadays that's not so simple. IMO- Given the electrical gremlins you described, check all the fuses, then if those all check out, get it checked for any codes and go from there.
(Not to preach, but this is why I carry a code reader in every car I drive..)

The alternator? You don't need an alternator to start the car. If the car is cranking (you need a good battery to crank guys), but not running then you are missing one of the key ingredients for combustion, air, fuel, spark. I know these modern engines are complicated, but in the end one of these is missing for whatever reason. We'll assume you have fuel and air so obviously you aren't getting any spark. In the old days i'd just pull a spark plug wire and hold it against the exhaust manifold to verify spark, yeah I was stupid
. I'm surprised I never shocked the **** out of my arm.
I'm assuming you know the difference between the car actually cranking and the clicking sound you'll hear if the battery is dead.
