Default intake + straightpipe = lower power?

hey guys, got a GT with a K&N typhoon intake which gave me a nice little boost, adding on the straight pipe magnaflow catbacks i thought id be getting an overall increase in torque and horses....i havent run it on the dyno yet but i feela huge drop in low end torque to the extent that it used toburn rubber on steppin the pedal but now my torque seems aimed more towards the higher end and im not getting much of a punch from my acceleration till i pass 40mph or so.....is it just me or is this the outcome to expect from a straight pipe....and if it is,,,,any suggestions on parts to lift up my low end torque??

adding axlebacks tends to cause a loss in torq.....you gain nothing but sound from them

My SLP loudmouths took away some torque, but other mods more than made up for it and the sound makes them stay.

I think sound is really tied into preception of power, aka the butt dyno

I've found since going to the stock axle backs that I'll let the engine loaf at 4000rpms where there is a ton of torque
With my SLP LMs the car was way too loud by 2500rpms so I was shifting a lot earlier and not getting into the full power band

that sounds like more of driver error, not to blame it on the exhaust... eh

Less back pressure usually means less torque (to an extent). So opening up the exhaust without pulling in equal or more air will result in less torque.

To lift the low end you will need more air in.

EDIT: There is actually a bit more to it than that but...

better start modding the ball$ off your car...p.s. you might want to ditch that K&N and pick up a good CAI/tuner combo...you'll get a lot more out of it.

you do NOT want back preasure, backpreasure is the force a car must make to force exhaust gasses out of the car, you do however want a reasonable size pipe to have the exhaust get "sucked" out with the maximum velocity

NO tune CAI = junk, even the tuneable CAIs get the most from the tune and very little from the CAI

what do you mean straight pipe magnaflows? did you ditch the H pipe and run true duals? did you just do axlebacks?,

straight pipes = no cats, no mufflers
