none...do performance mods instead. CAI/tuner combo = approx $700, install yourself....short gears = approx. $600 parts, materials and labor...look stock winning, instead of flossing while losing...JMO...

hammer throw that K&N across your yard and pick up a C&L, Steeda, etc...plus the tuner, PLUS the gears...

I don't get why a CAI requires a tune. Modern Fi automatically can adjust fuel based on the MAF output, and the O2 sensors. Roush told me that with a CAI and the FRPP axlebacks no tune was required. For sure a tune can better set-up the car for your driving conditions......but the Fi compensates for air density changes automatically, unless you are outside parameters, or pegging the MAF, right? Otherwise a car tuned for sea level would be way rich in high altitudes, which isnt the case, since the system is closed loop. Motorcycles use open loop Fi systems, in which the mapping stays the same, regardless of air intake and is based on throttle position and RPM.

Someone clue me in why a tune is so important for the Stang........

Get the lightest wheels you can, for best performance.

^^^ try not to think of it as the CAI needing a tune, but rather all significant mods needing a tune. The car will try its hardest to maintain the factory settings after mods like heads, cams, longtubes, CAI, s/c etc are bolted on. The tune changes all that so you can maximize your gains. Hell, you can do a tune without any mods and pick up some extra power just because the tune changes the car's settings. Yes there are tuneless CAIs but the gains are lower than the ones that do require the tune...there are also mods that require no tune, like a/b's, UDPs, etc. but you'll need a tuner for alot of other mods, plus the ability to change your axle ratio for gearswaps and revs per mile for wheel and/or tire swaps...you really can't get around owning a tuner with these cars, or if you do you'll seriously limit yourself...
Watch out for Roush...they have the most expensive and least-power-producing SC out there...
