Default Tail Light Tinting

My friend has a 2004 mustang, and just put some 5% tint on his 3rd eye brake light, and on my brothers cobalts 3rd eye and both tail lamps. I was interested in tinting mine, but i am fairily sure its illegal... is any percentage legal in Maryland? Also, do cops really bother with tail light tint if you can still see the running and brake lights?

Give it a try and find out.
Maybe all it will cost you is a ticket.
Maybe wait and see what happens to
your friend and brother? Let them be
the state law testers?

just try it out, i'm pretty sure i'm supposed to have a license plate in the front of my car but i dont i figure cops wont be looking for a plate when they see my car go by, they'll either be checking the radar or admiring

To each his own, but I don't understand why people tint the tail lights... The object of the tail lights is that they be bright and visible - especially when you're slowing down or stopping. The tint minimizes the brightness, making it less visible to the guy behind you, therefore increasing the odds of a rear end collision.

Like I said, to each his own, but I just don't get it.

I live in Maryland and have my tail lights tinted. Never had a problem and I've had them like that for a year now. I've even been pulled over for speeding and not had the cop mention anything about my tail lights.

I have been pulled over and the CHP said it was illegal (twice [:@]). I don't think they would have pulled me if my windows weren't blacked out.

I should probably clarify - my tail lights are tinted, not blacked out. I went with 50% smoked. Blacked out may get you noticed a bit more.

Don't buy the covers.
I spent $60 on them, to have them not fit 100% properly and actually had one fall of on me today. Who knows where that is now.
Wonder how I looked with one smoked tail light...
Just go with the tint.

well i was thinking along the same lines as all of you with the rear end probability, visibility, and goin smoked...

i origianlly wanted to smoke them but i didnt want to spend the money on the tint, but tint is cheap i think i may just buy it myself, because i haven't been pulled over yet and i would like to keep it that way for as long as possible. I may just black out my 3rd and smoke the actual tail lights.
