there are holes which will be to be covered or patched up. you could get a blackout to cover it up.

Yep, you can remove it, but as previously mentioned there are a couple holes there. You could have the holes covered and the trunk lid repainted. You could also add a rear emblem delete panel. CDC makes one that is ribbed, and Street Scene makes one that is smooth. The Street Scene looks like this.........

Umm, did you ever notice what your rocker poanels are made of? How about your interior trim pieces? Tail-lights? Headlight covers? Cars have had plastic on and in them for longer than either of us have been alive. It only looks bad if you don't like it....

I can't remember if they're dimples or holes, but yes, just painting over or laying vinyl won't help.
