Yep, you can remove it, but as previously mentioned there are a couple holes there. You could have the holes covered and the trunk lid repainted. You could also add a rear emblem delete panel. CDC makes one that is ribbed, and Street Scene makes one that is smooth. The Street Scene looks like this.........

those plastic black-out panels look... well ....plastic.

 

Umm, did you ever notice what your rocker poanels are made of? How about your interior trim pieces? Tail-lights? Headlight covers? Cars have had plastic on and in them for longer than either of us have been alive. It only looks bad if you don't like it....

 

I can't remember if they're dimples or holes, but yes, just painting over or laying vinyl won't help.

They are definitely holes! They would need to be filled and repainted or covered up like the above have suggested

 

A blackout panel would be a good way to cover them up.
